Family Services

Family dynamics are always shifting. Naturally, these changes will necessitate adjustments in any of the following situations:
  • Arrival of a new sibling
  • Moving to a new home, school, church, etc
  • Adoption of a child
  • Divorce/Separation of Parents
  • Remarriage/Blending of families
  • Grieving the loss of a family member
  • And more...

When people think of "family counseling", it often invokes an image of an entire family being present for an awkward and high-conflict session. However, it doesn't have to be that way. Often times, bringing an element of playfulness into the session through board games or other activities can decrease heightened tension/defensiveness and help forge a deeper connection of trust. When all family members feel safe and secure, it is often then that true emotions can be expressed.

In certain circumstances, it can be beneficial for particular family members to engage in some individual therapy (with either the adults or children) before the family can be seen together.
At Two Hearts Counseling, family services will always be tailored to each individual family and their needs.
